Quail Botanical Gardens and San Diego Zoo in AAA Westways Out&About

The June AAA Westways magazine features two of my pieces in the Out&About section. "Please Stay On the Grass" on p. 15 announces the new Hamilton Children's Garden at Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas, and "Prehistoric Meets Present" on p. 16 describes the San Diego Zoo's new Elephant Odyssey Habitat. I'm always happy to write for Westways and let readers in the region know about the best of what's new in San Diego County.

Lux Art Institute in AAA Westways

A short piece I wrote on the new Lux Art Institute in Encinitas was published in the "What's New Lifestyle" column of AAA Westways Magazine in the July/August issue. Encinitas is fortunate to have an innovative, outward-looking arts venue such as Lux right here in town.

Southern California's Coastal Cool

This is a travel piece I did for the July 2008 issue of Western New York Family Magazine. I thought it would be fun to let East Coast readers know about the wonderful North County coastal cities in the area and some of their less well-known attractions for families. I was happy to spread the word about LEGOLAND California, Quail Gardens, and the California Surf Museum, as well as several other hidden gems.

Exploring California Missions

In California, fourth grade means missions. Last July, with a daughter entering fourth grade in the fall, my family embarked on its own mission to see all 21 of them in a twelve-month period. If your family isn’t as ambitious (insane?) as that, you can still visit three missions that are easily accessible as day trips from San Diego. Each is unique in flavor, and fills in a different piece of the picture of our state’s past. Here’s my impression of these first three missions on our journey.
