Few scenes describe Carlsbad as definitively as the Flower Fields. Spring Awakening, describing the 2011 season of events, appeared in the March/April 2011 issue of Carlsbad Magazine.

Betty Moore, who started Bottom Line Management in 2001, has a profession that belies her personality. An energetic, bubbly, former cheerleader who absolutely adores accounting is not someone out of Hollywood’s stock character list, and that’s too bad, because bookkeeping might be on People Magazine’s list of World’s Sexiest Careers if Hollywood got ahold of her."
These are the opening paragraphs of this piece in Carlsbad Magazine's March/April 2011 issue highlighting Betty Moore of Bottom Line Management Bookkeeping for the Commerce column. I wanted to emphasize Moore's outgoing personality while showing the absolute passion for her work. I enjoyed getting to know Moore, and I ended up doing some work for her website as well, which you can also see in my portfolio.

The lagoons of San Diego North County are some of the area's most beautiful and valuable natural resources. We are so fortunate to have four significant lagoons right in San Diego County. I got a chance this month to write an article for Carlsbad Magazine about a special event held at Batiquitos Lagoon every year, when the waters are opened up to kayakers for the purpose of an annual cleanup. The chance to paddle the waters of the lagoon, which is normally forbidden, attracts kayak enthusiasts from around the county. This year's event is held Sept. 25-26. And wait until you find out some of the things they've hauled in.

I love my job. I get to talk with fascinating, creative people, learn what makes them tick, and then spread the word to the rest of the world. I recently had the opportunity to interview Alex Kajitani, otherwise known as The Rappin' Mathematician, for Carlsbad Magazine. Kajitani has a unique way of teaching algebra to middle school kids, and has branched out into recording his own raps that teach mathematic principals for his company MathRaps.
"If some local third-graders had their way, their classrooms would have a pool, a roller coaster and, oh yeah, a mud bath ..." This creative zoning exercise is just one of many interesting things I found out about the innovative program for Carlsbad elementary students called CityStuff that teams Junior Achievement, community volunteers and teachers to teach kids about how their city works. I love learning about good things going on in our community, and the CityStuff program seems like a win-win situation for everyone involved. This article appeared in the January/February 2010 issue of Carlsbad Magazine.
An ambitious mosaic mural project at the Montessori Arts and Sciences School in Carlsbad entitled "Tribute to What Came Before Us" brings together schoolchildren, local artists, and the Carlsbad community—through the ArtSplash program—to create a work of art that also pays tribute to local history and environment. This was a fun article to do and my first for Carlsbad Magazine, published by the parent company that also publishes Encinitas magazine.

Crafting a clean, concise, well-written piece that’s a perfect fit for its audience gets me jazzed; I love talking with people to find out what makes them tick, discovering what’s interesting about every place I go and every person I encounter.
I deliver clean copy on time and give the same attention to detail to every piece — from 25-word profiles to in-depth features and case studies. I also have an obsession with hunting down and eliminating grammar, punctuation and usage errors and rewording confusing copy.
I love making editors' jobs easier and giving clients exactly what they need—even if they can’t fully describe what that is just yet.
