This is the very first article I ever published. It was the final assignment for the Feature Writing class at UCSD Extension taught by David Coddon of the San Diego Union-Tribune (the first ever session of that class back in '96). I was still working full-time as an engineer and used to pick up ComputorEdge, the free weekly magazine of all things tech in San Diego. I dreamed up the idea for this article on recycling floppy discs and CDs because of all the "junk" floppies I used to get in the mail from AOL. (You know this was a long time ago.) I did a little research online, did a little phone interviewing, and voila, my first completed article. I submitted it to ComputorEdge for their "Beyond Personal Computing" column and it was accepted—my first published clip! I opened the article with a David Letterman-esque "top 10" list which they expanded on in the accompanying drawing. Enjoy a bit of computer nostalgia and Download "Old Floppies Never Die."
